Is freedom of speech gone?

Is anyone else getting sick of the government trying to take away our freedom of speech? If you look at the news there are laws made all the time limiting freedom of speech. If you look at the amendment it says "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to emble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances." So why is congress making all these laws if it says they are not legally allowed to? Isn't it illegal to limit our freedom of speech? I though this was America, not Nazi Germany.
